The story of The Flood of Noah's Day is no myth or legend. There is an abundance of evidence both historical and archeological. For instance marine fossils found at the tops of high mountains, the remains of animals all destroyed at the same time, animals who normally would not herd together, and who no longer live in the locations the remains have been found in. All legends in all cultures right around the world contain a flood story and all contain the same theme, namely that the world of that time was full of violence and was brought to a sudden end by the creator, however one family was preserved alive. Myths & legends are generally vague about accurate details however the book of Genesis provides an abundance of information including the actual size of the ark ( 437ft 6ins in length, 72ft 11ins wide & 43ft 9ins high ).
Chapter 7 verse 11 provides the precise date the flood took place, equivalent to November 1st 2370 B.C.E in our calendar. This date is known today as All Saints Day, but it was originally called All Souls Day, a festival of the dead. It is thought to date back to the time of Nimrod and the Tower of Babel. Having rebelled against God the people of that time chose to commemorate all those who perished in the global flood, hence the name All Souls Day.The evening before November Ist is also connected to the flood, the 31st October or Halloween. The name Hallowen literally means "the evening before the day of hallow or honor" the day of honor being the aforementioned All Souls Day when "hallow"or honor was given to all those who died in the global flood.
The painting shows the day Noah & his family along with representatives of the animal kingdom, came out of the ark to start all over again.
