IN THE LAND OF THE CROW
During the early 1800s, known as the Black Powder Days,men seeking a new way of life took to the mountain wilderness regions of North America.Some where there to trap beaver and make money but for others the solitude was a welcome relief from their former way of life.Trading with and at times living with friendly Indians such as The Crow & The Shoshone they were able to aquire new skills which made it possible to survive even in the dead of winter.Some took Indian wives and fully accepted the Indian way of life.
The painting depicts such a man travelling in winter and having just cleared the land of the Blackfeet he now feels safe
