WHEN THE LAND WAS FREE

The Crow lived to the north of the Sioux & Cheyenne in Montana. There's a strange story that when scouting for the United States Army, two Crow scouts were asked to deliver a message to soldiers on the other side of the Yellowstone River when preparing for the swim across the river they began covering their bodies in red paint, when asked why, they stated it was to ward off Alligators.Since Alligators are not found that far north it may reveal that the Crow originated much farther south.
The painting shows a Crow warrior with a trade flintlock rifle, his face painted with white clay .
